Hosting for IT providers: planning customer environments

NUXOA Redaktion · 28 September 2026 · Hosting

Operating customer websites, file services or business applications involves more than selling storage. Changes, support ownership and a recovery path are part of the service. A useful hosting design starts with what you want to deliver to customers.

Three models for different requirements

Cloud servers are a useful starting point for separate environments with different resource requirements. A small web service and a larger database need not receive the same allocation. Keep spare capacity and establish which changes can be made during operation and which require downtime.

Dedicated servers are an option when you need exclusive physical hardware or want to operate your own virtualization platform. Managed applications fit when you want to delegate parts of ongoing operations. You can combine these choices: one customer may need managed groupware and another a self-managed application server.

Separate customers technically and operationally

Record each customer's systems, accounts, domains and backups. Separate user accounts are not sufficient for every use case. Review network access, administrator permissions and recovery scope too. On a shared server, restoring one customer's data must not accidentally roll back another customer's work.

For example, an agency managing twelve business websites could organize them through separate Plesk subscriptions. An additional shop with its own maintenance window and custom services receives a separate environment. Dependencies and operational requirements matter more than the website count alone.

Include operations in your pricing

Calculate infrastructure, licences, backups, traffic and your own time separately. Include setup, routine maintenance and incident handling. API integration also involves development, error handling and reconciling orders with actual provisioning. A successful API response does not necessarily mean an application is ready for use.

Agree these points before onboarding

NUXOA offers cloud servers, dedicated servers and managed applications as building blocks for your service. Start with a representative customer project and validate setup, operations and handover before applying the process to more customers.

  • Who operates the platform, operating system and application?
  • Who receives customer requests and escalates technical incidents?
  • How are access, changes and restores documented?
  • How are excess usage, additional work and customer departures handled?
